Kelsey Bateman, a former contestant on the VH1 reality dating show “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels,” has died at age 39, according to TMZ reporting on August 31, 2025.
Family sources confirmed to media outlets that Bateman passed away unexpectedly recently, though no cause of death has been revealed.
Bateman appeared on the third and final season of “Rock of Love,” titled “Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels,” which aired in 2009. The show featured 23 women competing to become the girlfriend of Poison frontman Bret Michaels. At 21 years old, Bateman was one of the youngest contestants on the season, where participants lived on tour buses and traveled with the rock star.
During her time on the show, Bateman advanced through multiple elimination rounds and made it to the final nine women before being eliminated in the seventh episode. Her departure became one of the season’s most memorable moments after she admitted to getting too intoxicated with fellow contestants Farrah Sinclair and Ashley Klarich during a night out.
In her confessional segment, Bateman revealed she had broken down emotionally due to the pressures of the show. “I ended up laying on a speed bump bawling my eyes out,” she stated, adding that she was ready for whatever Michaels had to say to her.

The reality show ran from 2007 to 2009, with Michaels ultimately selecting Taya Parker, the 2009 Penthouse Pet of the Year, as his girlfriend in the season three finale. However, their relationship proved to be short-lived. After the show ended, Michaels became engaged to longtime on-and-off girlfriend Kristi Gibson in 2010, though they separated in 2012. The couple shares two daughters, Raine, 25, and Jorja, 20.
