Melania Ends Her Silence on Natalie Harp

The chatter surrounding President Donald Trump and his executive assistant, Natalie Harp, amounts to nothing more than gossip, an adviser to First Lady Melania Trump said in an interview posted on X on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Disclosures that same week showed the president had handed cash gifts to four staffers, and the 35-year-old aide was one of them.

Marc Beckman holds a private role rather than a government post as Melania Trump’s senior adviser. His interviewer, Stella Escobedo, anchors at One America News Network and hosts her own program there. Her opening premise was that the press ignores the first lady’s work while chewing over tabloid gossip about Harp — a loyal, hardworking aide and a cancer survivor, in Escobedo’s description.

A Swipe at the Liberal Media

“The liberal media is ridiculous,” Beckman said. Reporters know nothing about the first lady’s personal and private life, he added. Nor, he said, will they give his team airtime for what he described as her achievements in the 47th presidential administration and the 45th.

“What they need to do is look in the mirror because they’re all attacking this hardworking, very talented, very intelligent person in Natalie Harp,” he continued. “Absolutely ridiculous” was Beckman’s verdict on the speculation, and he said: “The media doesn’t know about the first family’s private life. Period.”

Four Aides, $155,000

Annual financial disclosure forms came out in early September and were first reported on Tuesday, September 8; they show the president handed $45,000 each to Harp; to communications adviser Margo Martin; and to Chamberlain Harris, deputy director of Oval Office operations. Walt Nauta, who directs Oval Office operations, got $20,000, for a total of $155,000. The paperwork describes the money as a “cash gift for holidays,” given during last year’s holiday season. Her taxpayer-funded salary is $150,000, making the payment roughly a third of it.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle said the gifts “have nothing to do with any of these individuals’ official government duties, and therefore are entirely permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards.” The press office, for its part, pointed to a longstanding practice of Christmas gifts going to people in Trump’s orbit. Federal employees are barred under government rules from accepting gifts from subordinates or from officials who earn less than they do, though subordinates are not barred from receiving gifts from superiors; Harp’s title is special assistant and executive assistant to the president. Ethics lawyers disagreed. Richard Painter, the George W. Bush White House ethics counsel, said the money could run afoul of the federal bar on supplementing a federal salary: “A White House staffer is not your Fifth Avenue doorman.” Don Fox, a former acting director of the Office of Government Ethics, was more cautious, saying it is not clear the payments violate that bar but warning that sums of that size can leave recipients feeling indebted.

The Aide Known as the Human Printer

Harp presented at One America News from 2020 to 2022 and has spent years in Trump’s orbit, turning up beside the 80-year-old president more and more often. Her nickname, “human printer,” comes from the portable printer she totes so she can hand him printed articles.

In “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump,” The New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan write that the Secret Service was alarmed during the campaign when Harp left adoring letters in Trump’s private quarters, one of which read, “You are all that matters to me.” Unfounded rumors of an affair have grown from that perceived closeness, and the White House have angrily rejected them.

A Senator’s Jab and the Backlash

Beckman spoke weeks after a bruising exchange in August. Sen. Jon Ossoff pulled Harp’s name into a broadside on the president’s work ethic at an Atlanta campaign rally on Sunday, August 16: “See, he doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.” The “flying palace” line pointed to reports that Harp was among the small group of people who joined Trump when he secretly swapped planes while leaving Turkey in July due to a threat from Iran. Ossoff did not allege an affair, and he later declined to explain why he had invoked her name.

Trump’s team hit back at once. Ingle branded the senator “a cringeworthy, feminine theatre kid cosplaying as Barack Obama” and called Harp one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on the president’s team. White House communications director Steven Cheung wrote on X that the senator should “look deep into his soul and ask himself why he’s a miserable person who hates this country.”

Household politics helped account for the ferocity of that pushback: a person close to the White House said the first lady “doesn’t like these types of things,” and that Harp “will ultimately jump the highest out of anyone in the room when he says jump.”

A First Lady Out of the Spotlight

Since her husband returned to office, Melania Trump has kept largely out of public view. IndyCar and Fox Corporation were the donors she named when she stepped into the Rose Garden on August 20, announcing $2 million that extends her Fostering the Future initiative to Indiana University and Purdue University and lifts its reach to 26 academic institutions — exactly the sort of work Beckman says gets crowded out by rumor-chasing.

Harp’s position appears unchanged. She traveled with the president to Ireland on September 12, where journalist Aaron Rupar posted a photograph of her at a welcome function at the U.S. ambassador’s residence with the caption “Look who made the trip to Ireland! #TravelWithNatalie.” The White House Rapid Response 47 account replied: “President Trump does, in fact, travel with staff. Aaron, on the other hand, is a sick, deluded freak (in his 40s) who sits behind a keyboard and posts creepy things like this.”
