Authorities in Bexar County, Texas, confirmed that Camila Mendoza Olmos, a 19-year-old who disappeared on Christmas Eve, has been found dead in a field approximately 100 yards from her home. The medical examiner ruled the death a suicide, with the cause of death determined to be a gunshot wound to the head.
The body was discovered on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, during a search of a field at the Burnin Bush landscaping company in Northwest Bexar County. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar made the sad announcement on December 31, and said the area had been previously searched, but authorities returned with FBI agents to conduct a more thorough examination of the tall grass where the body was found.
A firearm was located at the scene. Salazar revealed that a firearm belonging to a relative had been missing around the time of Camila’s disappearance, though authorities had not yet determined whether the weapon found at the scene matched the missing firearm.
Camila Mendoza Olmos disappeared early in the morning on December 24. She was last seen on neighbor security camera footage searching her car around 7 a.m. before leaving on foot. Her mother, Rosario Olmos, reported her missing after growing concerned when her daughter did not return from what family members said was a regular morning walk.
Camila left without her cellphone, which was found turned off in her bedroom. She had her car keys and possibly her driver’s license with her when she departed. Her vehicle remained at the family’s residence in the 11000 block of Caspian Spring in the San Antonio area.
During the search efforts, authorities released a dashcam video that may show Camila walking on Wildhorse Parkway. The footage, provided by a passing motorist, showed a person matching her description walking alone on the morning she disappeared.
The multi-agency search for the missing teenager involved extensive resources. The FBI joined the investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security also became involved in the case. Authorities conducted ground searches spanning multiple days across the 10000 block of FM 1560 and surrounding areas in Northwest Bexar County.
Sheriff Salazar addressed the circumstances surrounding the case during a news briefing on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. He revealed that investigators had discovered indicators of suicidal ideation and signs of undiagnosed depression in the young woman’s recent history.
“From what’s being described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life,” Salazar said during the briefing.
The sheriff explained that one possibility investigators had been working under regarding the teenager’s disappearance was the fear of self-harm. He noted that this was among several scenarios authorities considered during their investigation.
Camila Mendoza Olmos was born in Ontario, California, and was a U.S. citizen. The 19-year-old had been living in the San Antonio area with her family at the time of her disappearance.
Sheriff Salazar acknowledged the comprehensive nature of the investigation, noting that authorities had explored all possibilities during the search. The collaborative effort between the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security reflected the urgency with which law enforcement approached the case.
The field where Camila’s body was located is situated just a short distance from her family’s home, in an area that had been part of the initial search perimeter. The decision to revisit the location proved crucial, as the tall grass had initially obscured the discovery.
“This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Salazar stated following the confirmation.
