A 10-year-old cardiac patient’s innocent question to Catherine, Princess of Wales, on July 6, 2026, led to one of the most endearing exchanges of her hospital visit, with the royal gently correcting young Ejran’s assumption about her royal identity.
Kate, 44, was touring Evelina London Children’s Hospital when Ejran asked if she was the queen’s daughter. “No, I am the Princess of Wales,” Kate said, explaining that she had come to the hospital because she had witnessed the “amazing work” being carried out there. She then told the young boy she was delighted to be surrounded by “special children, very brave children like yourself.” The boy may have been referring to either Queen Camilla or the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in 2022.
The exchange, captured on video and shared by Hello! magazine on Instagram, showcased the warmth and humor that has earned the princess a strong following among families.
A Heartfelt Connection With Young Patients
The moment with Ejran was far from the only touching interaction of the day. Kate also met a little boy named Arjun, who sweetly blew her a kiss during her tour of the hospital.
When Ejran mentioned he had been waiting around specifically to meet her, Kate responded with genuine surprise and appreciation. “Oh you were waiting for me?” she said. “That’s so kind of you.”
Kate asked the 10-year-old whether he had lost count of how long he had been hospitalized, a small exchange that demonstrated her rapport with young patients. Kate has served as patron of Evelina London since 2018.
Kate has often been described as “The Children’s Princess” for her natural ease with young people, and the July 6 visit offered a clear illustration of that reputation. She arrived dressed in the same white Suzannah shirt dress she had worn to Wimbledon in 2019.
A New Cancer Center on the Horizon
Beyond the heartwarming patient interactions, the visit also carried significant institutional weight. During her time at the hospital, Kate met with members of the children’s cancer program team and learned about a major development in pediatric oncology care. Evelina London is set to become home to a new Children’s Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, a facility that will unite specialist teams from The Royal Marsden and St. George’s Hospital with Evelina London’s existing experts in complex and rare childhood conditions.
The new center represents a landmark expansion of resources for young cancer patients in the UK, consolidating some of the country’s most experienced clinical talent under one roof.
Kate’s Personal Journey Through Cancer
Kate disclosed in 2024 that doctors had identified cancer in her body, though she did not specify the type, and she then completed preventive chemotherapy. She announced in January 2025 that she was in remission.
The visit marked her first time back at Evelina London since December 2023 — just weeks before the abdominal surgery that preceded her cancer diagnosis. Her cancer experience has shaped the causes she has chosen to champion since her recovery.
In June, Kate said the disease affects not just physical health but one’s thoughts, emotions, and daily life — and that healing demands support beyond medical intervention alone.
As part of that broader advocacy effort, Kate participated in the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s National Three Peaks Challenge, taking on summits across Scotland, England, and Wales. Kate explained that she undertook the challenge to examine what comes after a cancer diagnosis and to support an organization that had been important during her treatment. The challenge raised funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity with a focus on expanding access to holistic care for patients across the U.K. — an approach Kate has argued is essential to genuine healing alongside clinical treatment.
