Harrison Ford Makes Startling Announcement

Harrison Ford confirmed over the weekend that he will once again step into the shoes of Indiana Jones, this time lending his likeness to an animatronic figure at a new Walt Disney World ride. The 84-year-old actor shared the news through a pre-recorded video message shown at the D23 fan event, drawing excitement from franchise devotees who have followed the archaeologist adventurer for more than 40 years.

The attraction will open at Animal Kingdom in Bay Lake, Florida, and bears the title “Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.” Ford revealed he would personally serve as the physical model for the Indiana Jones animatronic featured in the experience, marking an unprecedented development for the beloved character.

Decades of Adventures Come Full Circle

Ford first brought the character to life in director Steven Spielberg’s 1981 blockbuster “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” The duo collaborated again on “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” in 1984 and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” in 1989, then returned nearly two decades later for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008. Across five films spanning more than four decades, the franchise has amassed $2.3 billion at the global box office.

The latest entry, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” arrived in 2023 but failed to match earlier financial successes. The Walt Disney World project offers the studio an opportunity to reignite interest in the property and reconnect with audiences who cherish the archaeology professor’s globe-trotting escapades.

An Actor Still in Fighting Form

Ford gave no indication that age has slowed him down. He was photographed last month cycling through Los Angeles, displaying a remarkably fit physique that belied his 84 years. At the 2026 SAG Actor Awards earlier this year, Ford accepted the Life Achievement Award for his seven-decade career, joking during his acceptance that the honor seemed early since he viewed himself as only halfway through his working life.

Beyond his ongoing work on “Shrinking,” Ford has maintained an active Hollywood presence and remains closely associated with two of cinema’s most iconic characters: the fedora-wearing adventurer and Han Solo.

Historic First for the Character

In his D23 video message, Ford disclosed that the new ride would represent a groundbreaking moment for the franchise. His actual likeness will shape the animatronic Indiana Jones, which will even incorporate the character’s legendary ophidiophobia. Ford hinted at further personal involvement, mentioning that he planned to visit Walt Disney World soon to help bring the project to completion.

He opened the message by expressing gratitude to audiences for joining the character on his many adventures through the years. Disney Parks shared Ford’s announcement on Instagram, where commenters flooded in with praise. One fan observed that Ford’s legacy would be “forever enshrined” through the attraction, while others insisted no other actor should ever assume the role.

Nostalgic Enthusiasm Greets the News

Social media reaction was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, with longtime admirers declaring Ford the one and only person fit to portray the whip-wielding professor. Several urged Disney to guarantee contractually that no replacement would ever be considered. The announcement tapped deep nostalgia for a character who has influenced popular culture since the early 1980s, and the prospect of Ford’s image being preserved in animatronic form resonated as a fitting and lasting tribute.

Ford’s warm tone during the D23 message reinforced his enduring bond with franchise fans across multiple generations. His connection to audiences has remained robust throughout the character’s cinematic journey, and the Animal Kingdom attraction will solidify that relationship in a concrete, permanent manner at one of the planet’s most popular theme parks.

Disney Bets on Enduring Appeal

With “Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent” now official and Ford personally engaged as the model for its central animatronic figure, Disney is counting on the original actor’s lasting appeal to attract new visitors to Animal Kingdom. The studio also hopes to remind veteran fans why they first fell in love with the adventurous archaeologist decades ago.
