Brad Pitt Drops Another Angelina Jolie Accusation

Actor Brad Pitt is pressing a Los Angeles judge to make his ex-wife, actress Angelina Jolie, hand over three years of financial records in the long-running battle over Château Miraval. In a motion filed July 31, 2026, his attorneys argue that she first agreed to produce the material and then reversed course on February 23.

At issue are the years 2017 through 2019 — the period immediately after the couple’s 2016 separation. The full request runs through 2021, and of that span, those three years are the only ones Jolie has refused. Pitt, 62, accuses Jolie, 51, of withholding information about what she earned after the split. Declarations answering two discovery requests, plus profit-participation statements covering 2017 through 2021, were what her side had agreed to provide, but his filing says she later “withdrew her agreement,” producing statements and tax records for 2020 and 2021 alone.

The Offer Pitt’s Lawyers Put on the Table

Pitt’s lawyers floated an off-ramp that would have closed out this corner of the discovery dispute without the older documents changing hands at all. The requests would be dropped, their offer went, if Jolie stipulated that she faced no economic pressure before January 1, 2020, and that Pitt never economically coerced her at any point from 2017 to 2019. She turned it down. The reach of any inquiry by Pitt’s attorneys into her post-separation earnings is now a question for the court.

His attorneys tie the relevance of that income directly to the reasons Jolie has given for wanting out of the wine venture. Financial independence from Pitt was something she was pursuing, her earlier assertions held; her career had largely been put on hold, costing her years of pay after the 2016 breakup; and any leverage he held over her grew out of her finances at the time. All of that was cited in their motion. Her financial information stays private unless she herself makes it relevant, the filing says, and by Pitt’s camp’s account she has done precisely that. A June discovery conference also drew comment from his team, which noted that she had rebuffed the court’s suggestion that her testimony about earnings and compensation be narrowed.

Jolie Says She Never Alleged Financial Distress

Jolie’s lawyers answered Pitt’s original request in June. “The entire basis for Pitt compelling these answers is a made-up theory that Jolie did not allege,” her attorneys wrote. Financial distress is something she has never alleged, her filing states; what she sought was to untangle her financial life from the spouse she was divorcing. That distinction, her lawyers argue, is categorically different from general financial hardship — and dispositive. Income and tax statements for 2020 and 2021 had already been produced despite no obligation to do so, the response added, and reaching back any further would seriously invade her privacy.

Miraval is a place Jolie says she has not returned to since 2016, and her filings link her decision to sell to what they describe as physical and emotional abuse by Pitt against her and their children in September 2016 — allegations Pitt has denied and of which he was cleared. Details about Jolie’s income from movies, sponsorships and other work after the separation were also being sought by Pitt’s team, according to reporting in August, though her lawyers maintained those private earnings could not explain why she sold Miraval.

The $67 Million Sale at the Center

Nouvel — the company through which she held her 50 percent interest in the Provence, France, estate — went to Tenute del Mondo for $67 million in October 2021, and everything traces back to that sale by Jolie. A Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer affiliated with the Stolichnaya vodka brand, Tenute del Mondo belongs to the corporate group tied to Stoli and Yuri Shefler, the Russian-born billionaire who controls it. February 2022 brought Pitt’s suit, whose allegation was that an agreement between the former spouses barred either from selling an interest in Miraval to an outside buyer without the other’s consent. That any such agreement existed is something Jolie disputes.

Months before that sale, in July 2021, Jolie had gone to court asking a judge to lift a restraining order that blocked her from selling her shares in the company that owns the château. Pitt considered buying out her stake in 2021, but the two sides never settled on payment terms or on noncompete and non-disparagement provisions. Jolie has said the buyout talks collapsed over a proposed nondisclosure agreement (NDA) she considered too sweeping; Pitt’s side maintains an NDA was appropriate to protect the Miraval business.

Rulings Already on the Books

The motion to compel is only the latest skirmish. A Los Angeles judge sided with Jolie in a separate discovery fight on May 4, 2026, ruling she did not have to give Pitt 22 unredacted communications covered by attorney-client privilege. Then, on June 17, a California court cleared the way for depositions involving Stoli representatives to proceed.

Pitt and Jolie bought Miraval in 2008 and married there in 2014. They separated in 2016 and jointly owned the property until 2021, then finalized their divorce in December 2024 after a roughly eight-year fight, under terms both sides kept confidential. Trial in the winery case is expected in August 2027.
