Mass Shooting: 11 Shot Outside College Football Stadium

The crowd leaving Florida A&M University’s homecoming game was packed so tight that police officers scooped up the wounded and carried them out in their arms.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent in the mass shooting that wounded 11 people outside Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., Tallahassee police said in a statement Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. Officers arrested the teenager Sunday, Oct. 25. The gunfire erupted just before 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, near Perry and Manatee streets behind the stadium, about two hours after the Rattlers’ homecoming loss.

Six of those shot were juveniles. The youngest was 11 years old.

Police Chief Lawrence Revell said it was “especially heartbreaking” that kids were among the wounded.

A Grandmother Hurt While Fleeing

One of the people struck by gunfire is a FAMU student, police said. At least three of the victims suffered serious injuries, authorities said. The grandmother of one victim was hurt as she ran from the scene, but she was not shot.

Officers Carried the Wounded

Officers ran toward the gunfire, Revell said. The crowd was so dense that ambulances and patrol cars could not reach the victims, so officers carried some of them out themselves. Police declared the scene secure around 9:45 p.m.

Jayden Dubois, a FAMU student, said he heard gunshots and was trampled in the rush.

A Homecoming Turned to Chaos

Homecoming is one of the biggest weekends of the year at FAMU, a historically Black university, and the streets around the stadium were packed with students, alumni and families. More than 20,000 fans had watched Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Golden Lions beat the Rattlers 31-28.

Tallahassee, a city of about 200,000, has absorbed several high-profile shootings in recent years. In April 2025, a gunman killed two people and wounded six others at Florida State’s student union. In 2022, one person was killed and eight wounded outside a liquor store near the FSU campus after a football game. Gunfire has also marred homecoming weekends at a number of other HBCUs lately. The Gun Violence Archive has counted at least 383 mass shootings in the U.S. so far in 2026, defining one as an incident in which four or more people are shot, not counting the shooter.

Mayor John Dailey described what happened as a horrific, heartbreaking tragedy for the city. FAMU told the public its campus was safe but asked people to steer clear of the scene.

By Sunday morning, police said, five of the wounded had gone home from the hospital, while six were still being treated, including one in critical condition. No deaths have been reported. The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the case, detectives have reviewed digital evidence and canvassed the area, and investigators set up a tip hotline and an online link for the public to submit what they have.

Revell said the shooting likely stemmed from an altercation between two or three people, and police said Monday that it appears none of the victims was an intended target.
