Three people were killed and 14 seriously injured in a collision involving a Greyhound bus and stationary commercial vehicles on an exit ramp of Illinois’ Interstate 70.
The Illinois State Police released a statement saying that the incident took place at approximately 1:54 am on Wednesday, July 12, at the Silver Lake Rest Area in Madison County. Troop 8 units responded to reports of the crash in which the Greyhound bus collided with three parked commercial vehicles.
Four of the injured were airlifted to the hospital, while at least 10 others were transported by ambulance. Greyhound, the bus company involved, confirmed that the bus was traveling from Indianapolis to St. Louis. On Thursday, Illinois police identified the three victims as Juan Vasquez-Rodriguez, 34, Buford Paya, 71, and Bradley Donovan, 47.
In a statement, Greyhound confirmed that several passengers, including the driver, were taken to the hospital. The company emphasized its commitment to the well-being of its passengers and drivers, stating, “Our primary concern is to ensure the safety of our passengers and drivers.”
The Illinois State Police later announced that all lanes on westbound I-70 were open and traffic was flowing normally.
