A community outreach event in Seattle devolved into chaos as a shooting left five injured, two critically.
On Friday evening, July 28, King Donuts’ parking lot transformed from a community gathering point into a crime scene as a volley of gunfire disrupted the peace. The local authorities reported that the shooting, involving numerous fired rounds, occurred just shy of 9 pm.
The site, in the heart of Rainier Valley, was home to a community outreach event when the shots were fired. “We know that there were dozens and dozens of rounds that were fired,” stated Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz.
Following the incident, four of the victims were immediately transported to the hospital. A woman and a man, both in their 20s, were critically injured. Additionally, two men in their 20s were declared stable after initial treatment. A man in his 30s was attended to at the crime scene, his injuries deemed minor.
Participants of the interrupted community event made up all the victims.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell addressed the shooting, terming it a “tragedy” and promising to bring answers to the unsettled community. Speaking at the scene of the incident, he praised the community’s spirit, saying, “People that come from these streets, that come from this community, are protecting the community – literally putting their lives on the line.” He added, “That’s the tragedy of today – of too many guns in the wrong places, in the wrong hands.”
