Trump’s Former Lawyer Unloads in Bombshell Interview

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche didn’t mince words during a sit-down with Fox News host Sean Hannity on June 2, 2026, declaring that President Donald Trump “absolutely” would have been locked up behind bars had he not won the 2024 election. The candid exchange, recorded for Hannity’s Hang Out podcast, offered one of the most unfiltered looks yet at how Trump’s own legal team viewed the stakes heading into Election Day.

Blanche, who served as Trump’s personal attorney before stepping into the nation’s top law enforcement role, walked listeners through the legal minefield his former client navigated as a candidate. The picture he painted was striking — and pretty grim, depending on which side of the aisle you’re sitting on.

White House or the Big House

Hannity teed up the moment by reminding listeners that Trump had been convicted on 34 felony charges in New York City, then floated the now-viral framing. “So is it an accurate statement to say he either wins in ’24, wins the White House — [and] it’s either the White House or the big house?” Hannity asked.

Blanche’s response was immediate. “Yes! Oh yeah, absolutely,” he said, before laying out his rundown of the criminal exposure stacked against Trump at the time.

According to Blanche, the New York conviction was only one piece of a much larger puzzle. There was the federal case in D.C. that had been “breathing down his neck,” he said, plus the Florida case that had been dismissed but was being appealed. And then, Blanche argued, there was the New York judge who, in his telling, was determined to hand down a prison sentence no matter what.

That sentence never came. Trump won the election, and the judge ultimately did not send him to prison. Blanche framed the outcome in sweeping terms, telling Hannity that “the consequences of 2024 for this country are priceless. But for him and his family, also priceless.”

A DOJ Probe Into the Grand Juries

The conversation took another sharp turn when Hannity asked whether the Justice Department was actively investigating the grand juries that had targeted Trump. Blanche confirmed that such a probe is, in fact, underway.

Hannity pressed further, suggesting the investigation was really about determining whether a pattern of behavior had emerged aimed at dismantling “one man, one family, one organization.” Blanche agreed without hesitation. He acknowledged that the investigation will need to prove the existence of a pattern of politically motivated legal attacks, but offered an unmistakably confident assessment that doing so wouldn’t be especially difficult.

It’s the kind of remark that’s bound to fuel debate on both sides — supporters seeing vindication, critics seeing a politicization of the Justice Department under the current administration that began January 20, 2025, when Trump was inaugurated alongside Vice President JD Vance.

The E. Jean Carroll Angle

Blanche’s podcast appearance landed roughly a week after the Justice Department opened a separate investigation on May 28, 2026, examining whether E. Jean Carroll perjured herself during her sexual assault civil suit against Trump. The probe zeroes in on a specific contradiction: in a 2022 deposition, Carroll said she had not received outside help funding her case. LinkedIn co-founder and prominent liberal donor Reid Hoffman later publicly stated that he had helped bankroll the litigation.

That disconnect — between sworn testimony and a donor’s later acknowledgment — is now squarely in the DOJ’s sights, and it forms part of the broader landscape Blanche is navigating as acting attorney general.

From Defense Attorney to Top Cop

Blanche’s trajectory has been one of the more remarkable arcs in recent legal memory. He went from defending Trump in a Manhattan courtroom to running the Justice Department, a journey that has not been without complications. He’s still contesting a malpractice lawsuit from former clients dating back to his pre-Trump days at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

Still, the acting attorney general has settled comfortably into his role as one of the administration’s most visible legal voices. He has made high-profile announcements in recent days, including unveiling charges against an Iranian-Iraqi national in a terror case on May 28.

For Hannity’s audience, though, the headline takeaway from the June 2 podcast was simpler. According to the man who once stood next to Trump at the defense table, the 2024 election wasn’t just a political contest. In Blanche’s framing, it was the difference between the Oval Office and a prison cell — a binary he stated with the kind of certainty that’s certain to keep this conversation going for some time.
