Trump Humiliates Himself Trying to Insult Female FOX News Host

President Donald Trump turned to Truth Social on Aug. 16, 2026, to unleash a two-part tirade against Fox News Sunday anchor Shannon Bream — and in doing so, managed to misspell the very insult he was trying to land. The 80-year-old president called Bream, 55, “Milktoast” after the veteran anchor grilled his newly confirmed attorney general over the administration’s legally contested White House ballroom construction project.

A Spelling Error Steals the Show

The word Trump was reaching for is “milquetoast,” a term derived from the comic strip character Caspar Milquetoast. Merriam-Webster defines it as describing “a timid, meek, or unassertive person.” Trump used the insult to criticize Bream for her assertive questioning, asking in his Truth Social post why she didn’t show updated pictures instead of old and irrelevant ones. The Daily Beast contacted the White House about the outburst, but officials declined to respond.

It was not Trump’s first time reaching for that particular misfire. He previously attacked Bream with the same misspelling in a Truth Social post, and has separately used the mangled term against former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who served in that role during his first term. The pattern suggests the misspelling is not a typo but a fixture of the president’s vocabulary.

Bream Pressed Blanche on the Ballroom Fight

What set off Sunday’s rant was a pointed exchange between Bream and Attorney General Todd Blanche, a former personal attorney to Trump who became the nation’s top prosecutor after Senate confirmation. Bream read on air from a 2-1 decision by a D.C. circuit court stating that construction on the White House ballroom should be temporarily halted and that the administration may not proceed without first securing congressional authorization, as the Constitution and applicable laws require. Rather than seek that authorization from the House, the White House has chosen to appeal the court decision.

Bream asked Blanche point-blank, “Why not just go to Congress?” Blanche pushed back, saying the administration believes Congress has already granted the needed authority and that it has a fundamental disagreement with the judges who ruled against the project. Trump’s continuing preoccupation with the ballroom — one of several capital-city projects critics have labeled vanity efforts — has drawn warnings from political observers who note that voters are far more focused on the administration’s conflict with Iran and the rising cost of living.

A Pattern of Attacks on Female Journalists

Sunday’s posts were structured as a one-two punch. Trump falsely claimed Bream’s ratings had begun to decline and complained that watching her program felt like watching the worst of cable news competition. In his second post, he used the “Milktoast” nickname and questioned the show’s coverage choices. Neither claim about the anchor’s ratings was supported with any evidence.

The broadside fits a well-documented pattern. Trump has called CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins “the worst reporter” and told Bloomberg News correspondent Catherine Lucey to be “quiet, piggy” during a press encounter. In an April 7 post on Truth Social — one that some observers suggested may have been an accidentally published private message — Trump called for Fox News executives to pull liberal commentator and “The Five” co-host Jessica Tarlov from the program, branding her “a real loser” and “one of the worst personalities on television.” That same April post also took aim at Bream over her handling of an interview with Democratic Rep. Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts, accusing her of allowing guests to spread what Trump characterized as propaganda without challenge.

Trump’s grievances with Bream stretch back further still. He previously labeled her “naïve” after she pushed back in May 2024 on claims made by his then-attorney Alina Habba during the hush money trial, when Bream correctly noted on air that the case was brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and was not connected to the federal Justice Department. Trump responded at the time with “Bad day for Shannon!” He also blasted her for referring to his priority voter legislation as the “Save Act” rather than the “Save America Act,” formally known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act.

Trump’s MAGA Math Doesn’t Add Up Either

Beyond the spelling slip, Trump’s Sunday posts contained at least one additional factual problem. He claimed that MAGA comprises close to 100 percent of the Republican Party — a figure that contradicts a recent YouGov poll finding that approximately 62 percent of Republicans identify as MAGA. The gap between Trump’s assertion and the survey data is substantial, though the president offered no sourcing for his claim.

Meanwhile, the underlying dispute over the White House ballroom remains unresolved. With the administration opting to fight the court ruling through an appeal rather than seek congressional sign-off, the legal battle is likely to continue — giving Bream and others plenty of material for future Sundays, misspelled nicknames notwithstanding.
