Authorities in Allegheny County are investigating after a one-year-old and a three-year-old were found alive on August 3, 2026, inside a residence on Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, where two adults had apparently died three days earlier.
According to the Allegheny County Police Department, both victims are believed to have been deceased since July 31, leaving the little girls unattended for approximately three days.
Mother and Ex-Boyfriend Found Dead
The victims were identified as 31-year-old Lamara Baldwin, the mother of the two girls, and 42-year-old Lamont Dunlap, her former boyfriend. Neighbors said the children were not related to Dunlap.
Police responded to the Franklin Avenue address Monday afternoon, August 3, though officials have not disclosed who called for assistance or how first responders learned of the situation.
The two toddlers were transported to a hospital for examination and later turned over to Allegheny County Children, Youth, and Families. Authorities did not release details about the girls’ medical condition after their evaluation.
Cause of Death Remains Unknown
Neither Baldwin nor Dunlap showed obvious signs of trauma, investigators reported. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office is performing autopsies to establish how and why the pair died.
Detectives say they cannot determine what killed the two adults until autopsy results become available. No criminal charges have been filed, and the case remains open.
One neighbor said there had been multiple people coming and going from the residence, and she had contacted police on several occasions to report drug use.
Emotional Livestream Posted Hours Before Death
Baldwin posted to Facebook on July 31, hours before she is believed to have died, broadcasting a roughly three-minute livestream in which she described feeling exhausted by deception.
“I’m just tired of being lied to. Never told the truth. I don’t know how much more I can take,” Baldwin said in the broadcast.
Investigators have not publicly connected her online remarks to any hypothesis about what happened inside the home, and the Allegheny County Police Department has not revealed whether anyone requested a welfare check on Baldwin or Dunlap prior to August 3.
Community Searches for Answers
Neighbor John Sloan, speaking to local station KDKA, said the discovery left him confused. “I just don’t know what could have possibly happened or what someone could have done or what the parents could have done,” Sloan said. “This is a mystery.”
Wilkinsburg, a borough located immediately east of Pittsburgh, is now the focus of an active death investigation.
