Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show, was covering the 2026 Emmy Awards on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when the broadcast handed her an unexpected opening to talk about her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was kidnapped from her Tucson home. The longtime NBC journalist took it.

“We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye. That’s all,” Guthrie said.

An Emmy Moment Turns to Nancy

The opening came by way of the Emmys press room.
