Popular Actor Passes Away at 74

Oscar-nominated actress Sharon Stone revealed on May 13, 2026, through an Instagram post that Mike Stone, her eldest brother, has died at 74 after an extended illness.

The 68-year-old “Casino” star posted a photograph of her sibling along with a brief tribute.

“Mike Stone, my oldest brother,” Sharon wrote in the tribute. “Has passed away. Following an extended illness. We wish him peace.”

The emotional message bore the signatures of Sharon and her three sons — Roan Joseph Bronstein Stone, 25, Laird Vonne Stone, 21, and Quinn Kelly Stone, 19 — reflecting how the loss has affected the entire family.

An Actor Who Shunned the Spotlight

Mike Stone carved out his own career in the film industry but remained largely outside the glare of public attention his famous sister attracted. His acting credits spanned from the 1990s into recent years, including roles in the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger action vehicle “Eraser,” the horror film “Malevolence,” and three episodes of the daytime soap “The Bold and the Beautiful.” His most recent work came in 2022 with the film “Destinos Opostos.”

The siblings appeared together in the 1995 Sam Raimi western “The Quick and the Dead,” a stylized shoot-’em-up that also starred Gene Hackman alongside Sharon. The film has since become a cult favorite among fans of the genre and remains a treasured piece of the Stone family’s shared legacy.

Despite his behind-the-scenes preference, Mike was, by all accounts, a steady presence in his sister’s life — a private counterpoint to her global fame.

A Family Marked by Repeated Tragedy

This latest death adds to a devastating series of losses the Stone family has endured in recent years. Sharon publicly mourned the death of her younger brother Patrick Stone in 2023, who died of a heart attack at the age of 57.

Patrick’s 11-month-old son, River — whom he shared with wife Tasha Stone — died of organ failure in August 2021. Sharon’s mother, Dorothy Marie Stone, died on March 26, 2025, at the age of 91.

Following Patrick’s death, Sharon thanked supporters and acknowledged the family’s pain, noting, “Yes, we’ve had a tremendous amount of loss in these last couple of years, as so many of you also have.” She urged her followers to “continue to be kind,” a refrain she has returned to often in the years since.

Hollywood Friends Rally Around Sharon

Friends and former co-stars flooded Sharon’s Instagram post with messages of love and sympathy as word of Mike’s death spread. “The Princess Bride” actor Cary Elwes wrote, “Sorry for your loss, Sharon,” while “Younger” star Debi Mazar offered, “My condolences Sharon.”

The outpouring of support reflected the deep respect Sharon commands in Hollywood circles — and the recognition that her family has weathered an extraordinary amount of heartache in recent years.

Sharon’s Resilience in the Face of Loss

Sharon Stone has long been candid about her own health struggles, including a near-fatal brain hemorrhage she suffered in 2001 that profoundly reshaped her perspective on mortality and family. In recent years, she has channeled much of her energy into painting, philanthropy and advocacy work, while continuing to take on selective acting roles.

Her ability to weather personal hardship has become something of a defining theme in her public life. Friends and fans have repeatedly praised her openness about loss — a quality that has helped countless followers facing their own grief feel less alone.

For now, Sharon’s brief Instagram message — wishing her brother peace — stands as the family’s official farewell, as first reported on the evening of May 13. It is a quiet sendoff for a man who, despite his Hollywood connections, lived most of his life away from the cameras.

Mike Stone is survived by his sisters Sharon and Kelly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Sharon’s three sons, who joined their mother in publicly bidding farewell to the family’s eldest sibling.
