Former FOX Star Blasts Michelle Obama

In a lengthy broadcast segment on Monday, July 20, conservative media personality Megyn Kelly unleashed sharp criticism against former First Lady Michelle Obama before turning her attention to speculation about former Vice President Kamala Harris potentially running for president in 2028. The episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show” featured the 55-year-old broadcaster taking aim at two prominent Democratic women in what became a nearly 12-minute segment.

Kelly’s ire was sparked by remarks the 62-year-old Michelle Obama made during a podcast conversation with actress Keke Palmer for “IMO,” Obama’s podcast series. The discussion took place before a live crowd at the July 3 Essence Festival held in New Orleans, with the recording released to listeners the subsequent Thursday. Obama had recounted an experience from an early campaign appearance where media reports emphasized what she wore instead of the message she delivered.

The former first lady used the anecdote to illustrate how women in public life face scrutiny over appearance rather than content. Obama also expressed confidence in her oratory skills, pointing to her established track record of delivering powerful speeches.

Kelly’s Harsh Rebuke

The former Fox News personality responded with visible contempt, disputing Obama’s assessment of her own speaking abilities and calling for greater humility. Kelly dismissed Obama’s delivery as mechanical and rehearsed, characterizing her 2024 Democratic National Convention address as tired and derivative.

Defending journalists who cover what female politicians wear, Kelly maintained such reporting serves a legitimate purpose. Women in political office make bolder fashion statements than their male colleagues, she argued, creating natural material for coverage. Men’s standard business attire, by contrast, provides little variation worth noting.

Using profanity, Kelly rejected the notion that fashion reporting amounts to sexism. She accused Obama of adopting a victim mentality and urged her to stop viewing fair commentary as attacks.

Kelly highlighted Obama’s numerous appearances on Vogue’s cover and her 2025 publication “The Look,” a book about fashion, as proof that Obama actively courts style coverage but bristles when it turns unfavorable. She also mentioned the media fixation on former President Barack Obama’s tan suit in 2014, mocking claims that the reaction carried racial implications.

Attacks on the Obama Family

Kelly broadened her assault to include the 64-year-old former president, theorizing that his gray hair stemmed from decades married to a negative partner. She went further by claiming the couple’s daughters were disagreeable and had distanced themselves from their mother, insisting the family rarely appeared together in photographs.

Such assertions contradict recent evidence. Barack Obama shared an image featuring his daughters Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25, on social media in June for Father’s Day, posted a family picture last Thanksgiving, and published an older family snapshot in May for Mother’s Day. Michelle Obama released a video featuring both daughters in early July to celebrate Malia’s birthday. The entire Obama family appeared at the June 18 dedication ceremony for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

Kelly additionally claimed that Michelle Obama enjoyed softer press coverage than other political spouses due to her race and her husband’s ascendant political trajectory. She contended that journalists were reluctant to criticize Obama while former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin endured much harsher treatment.

Mocking Harris’s Potential 2028 Bid

The broadcaster then pivoted to discussions within Democratic circles about Kamala Harris as a possible 2028 presidential contender. With heavy sarcasm, Kelly expressed gratitude to Democrats for contemplating another Harris candidacy, ridiculing the former vice president for burning through a billion dollars over 107 days during her 2024 campaign while losing every swing state.

Kelly’s apparent excitement was calculated. She has consistently criticized Harris as a weak candidate and made plain her belief that another Harris campaign would help Republicans. The broadcaster argued that increased voter exposure to Harris correlated with declining approval, encouraging Democrats to nominate her again.

She concluded the segment by sarcastically envisioning a debate between Harris and either Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting with mock enthusiasm that the former vice president would excel in such a forum. The commentary wrapped a broadcast that positioned both Obama and Harris as vulnerabilities for Democrats approaching the next electoral contest.
