For four years, the woman at Jim Carrey’s side had no name in the press. That ended when the 64-year-old comedian and actor climbed onstage at the 2026 César Awards in France, delivered his entire acceptance speech in French, and said out loud what he had never confirmed before: “Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah.”
The honor recognized his extraordinary performances and his contribution to international cinema. Seated in the audience were Jackson, his grandson, and Jackson’s mother — Carrey’s 38-year-old daughter, Jane Erin Carrey. In the space of a few sentences, Carrey moved from family to love to gratitude, telling the room in French that he loves Jane and Jackson now and forever, declaring his love for Min Ah, and thanking his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, for showing him what love, generosity and laughter looked like.
A Private Romance Steps Into View
It was the couple’s first outing in public. Once the ceremony wrapped, cameras caught the pair holding hands — a small gesture, but a striking one from someone who had shielded this part of his life so completely. The relationship stretches back at least four years, all of it unreported until that night.
Min Ah, sometimes called Minzi, is an artist and actress based in the Los Angeles area. The earliest photos of her with Carrey date to 2022, when the two were seen leaving a charity comedy show hosted by director Judd Apatow at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles. She was identified then as Minzi, and almost nothing else about her has surfaced publicly since. Available reporting gives no indication that the two have married.
Why Some Viewers Insisted It Wasn’t Him
Carrey’s face, oddly enough, generated as much chatter as his speech. As images from the ceremony spread over the following days, a chorus of online commenters argued the man at the podium wasn’t Carrey — floating explanations that ranged from cosmetic surgery to a prosthetic mask to an outright stand-in. Drag performer and makeup artist Alexis Stone poured fuel on the theory by sharing a prosthetic image with the caption “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
Organizers weren’t entertaining it. Gregory Caulier, general delegate of the Césars, noted that Carrey’s appearance had been locked in since the previous summer and that the actor had drilled his French for months, even checking how to pronounce specific words. “For me, it’s a non-issue,” Caulier said. Marleah Leslie, who represents Carrey, offered her own confirmation: “Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards, where he accepted his Honorary Cesar Award.”
A Long History With Love, and No Interest in a Wedding
Anyone familiar with Carrey’s romantic track record wouldn’t have expected an engagement announcement to follow. Speaking with radio host Howard Stern in 2014, he said marriage wasn’t something he felt a need for and that he wouldn’t go chasing it again — while allowing that life has a way of surprising people.
He has been married twice, and both ended in divorce. Melissa Womer, whom he met at a comedy store, became his first wife in 1987; the couple welcomed Jane before splitting in 1995. He wed his “Dumb and Dumber” co-star, actress Lauren Holly, on September 23, 1996, and that marriage was over by July 29, 1997.
Working together on “Me, Myself & Irene” led to a romance with actress Renée Zellweger that began in 1999 and ended the next year. Carrey then dated television personality Jenny McCarthy from December 2005 until April 2010, a breakup the two announced publicly on Twitter. Later came a relationship with makeup artist Cathriona White, who died in 2015 at 30 from an overdose of prescription medication, followed by a romance with “She-Hulk” actress Ginger Gonzaga.
Loss and breakups haven’t left him resentful. During a 2020 appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” Carrey said he holds no regrets and appreciates what each partner gave him, even though he doesn’t long for anyone he once loved.
The Daughter in the Audience
Jane Erin Carrey has pursued creative work of her own. She auditioned for “American Idol” in 2012 with Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About,” and the panel — Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler — sent her through unanimously, though she was cut during Hollywood Week. She also fronted The Jane Carrey Band, which released a self-titled debut album in 2009 and went quiet after 2012.
Having his daughter and grandson in the room turned the ceremony into more than a career milestone. Career, family and romance converged in one deliberately chosen setting — a performer known for rubber-faced physical comedy and deadpan absurdity standing before a French audience, speaking their language and, for the first time, letting the public see the life he leads once the cameras stop rolling.
The Next Role
There is work ahead as well. Warner Bros. used its quarterly shareholder letter in August 2026 to make it official: Carrey will star as George Jetson in a live-action take on the 1962 Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Colin Trevorrow has been in talks to co-write and direct the film, which the studio slotted into its “beyond 2027” slate, leaving a release date some way off. It would be the comedian’s largest franchise part outside “Sonic the Hedgehog” in over a decade.
