A fatal confrontation over noise left two women dead and a grieving twin sister without the only family she had ever known. Authorities say Robert Winkelman, 73, shot and killed Jessica Lashly, 38, and her 17-year-old daughter Jersey Greer on July 25, 2026, outside their House Springs residence before turning the gun on himself.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported that Winkelman approached the victims’ home, located roughly 40 minutes southwest of St. Louis, around 8:30 p.m. that Saturday evening. He questioned Lashly and her daughter about noise before allegedly pulling a firearm and shooting Lashly in the head. When Jersey ran to assist her mother, deputies said Winkelman shot the teenager in the head as well.

After the shooting, Winkelman chased a third individual who had emerged from the residence upon hearing gunfire. According to JCSO Captain Matt Moore, the individual was able to get back inside the home and secure the door, avoiding harm.

Victims and Gunman Succumb to Injuries

When law enforcement reached the scene and found Winkelman outside his residence, he shot himself. Emergency responders transported all three to a hospital in critical condition. The JCSO announced on July 27 that both Lashly and Jersey had succumbed to their injuries. Winkelman died on August 2 after remaining hospitalized for more than a week.

On July 26, prosecutors filed two first-degree assault counts and two armed criminal action counts against Winkelman. Following the deaths, those assault charges were elevated to first-degree murder. Investigators determined the violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute regarding noise between Winkelman and the family, Captain Moore told KSDK. Multiple witnesses provided accounts of the incident to detectives, according to the JCSO.

Single Mother Raised Twins Alone

Lashly worked hard as a single mother to support her twin daughters in their close-knit household of three. Justice Greer, the surviving twin, described her mother as unfailingly supportive and devoted to her girls. The family bond defined Justice’s entire understanding of daily life, she said.

Both mother and daughter were registered organ donors. Even amid profound grief, Justice found comfort knowing their organs would save other lives.

Surviving Twin Faces Unimaginable Loss

Jersey’s twin sister Justice was at work when the attack occurred and learned of the tragedy afterward. The sisters had planned to begin their senior year together at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill, an achievement they were both looking forward to experiencing together. Both played lacrosse for the school and had openly discussed their shared dream of playing the sport in college together.

Justice recalled Jersey as inseparable from her in every way—someone whose laughter and personality could not be overlooked. She characterized her sister as the funniest person she knew, capable of bringing a smile to anyone’s face no matter the circumstances. Minor annoyances between siblings—such as Jersey entering Justice’s room without permission—have transformed into memories Justice now wishes she could relive.

Instead of fleeing when gunfire erupted, Jersey ran toward her wounded mother. That final act of courage has remained with Justice since the night she lost them both. “Jersey’s last moments, she was trying to save my mom,” Justice told KSDK. “It just shows how brave she is, and I hope I can be half as brave as she is.”

Fundraiser Exceeds $55,000

Northwest High School’s lacrosse team launched a GoFundMe campaign for Justice in the days after the shooting. Initially created to assist with medical expenses, the fundraiser’s purpose shifted to funeral costs after the two victims died. The effort has raised more than $55,000 as of the most recent reporting.

Justice now confronts grief that defies easy description—losing both her mother and her twin simultaneously. The future she envisioned included Jersey at every step: identical school hallways, the same lacrosse field, shared college aspirations. That vision no longer exists in the form she once imagined.

“It was always just us three,” Justice said of her family. “It’s going to be really hard because that’s all I’m used to.”
