Trump’s Bizarre Appearance Stuns Nation

A description by The New Republic of the widely shared video of President Donald Trump, 80, standing outside the White House says his head, neck and upper body pointed one way while his torso, knees and feet angled elsewhere, his abdomen pushed forward, and he shifted his weight as though turning his waist and hips caused him discomfort.

The footage, recorded Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, shows the president with his left knee angled sharply inward and his right leg arched out behind him. The clip set off another round of public alarm about his physical condition, alarm the footage itself cannot resolve.

The video came from Trump aide Margo Martin and captured the president after a luncheon with technology executives. Trump hosted the gathering, billed as Super Intelligence, in the East Room. The executives then flanked him on the White House driveway for an unplanned press conference that ran 30 minutes, and there he announced an artificial intelligence agreement that was described as “morally binding.”

In the frame, his left leg hung limp and his right hand was caked in makeup.

Online Reaction Splits Sharply

Social media delivered an immediate and merciless verdict. Users called for a real doctor to offer an opinion, disagreed over whether the stance pointed to an injury or cognitive decline, suggested a leg brace had at last grown too obvious to conceal, and joked that someone had attached his legs backward that morning. None of those reactions rested on medical evidence. The video establishes no injury, no diagnosis and no cause.

Not all of the reaction read the stance as significant. Several social media users argued the positioning simply reflected a brief, awkward pause caught on camera. An older photograph from a Rose Garden event last year, taken from behind and showing his legs at a different angle, also resurfaced after the clip. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel addressed the footage on his show. “Even his posture is crooked. Everything about him,” Kimmel said.

A Week of Scrutiny

Hours before that, Trump launched America.gov at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington and signed an executive order tied to the government services platform. Video from that event appeared to show Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, reaching toward the president as he lowered himself into a chair.

Viewers went hunting for bulges and outlines below the knees of his trousers after Trump descended the stairs from Air Force One slowly at Joint Base Andrews on Sept. 27, and unverified claims followed that he was wearing an exoskeleton or braces. His posture drew comparisons to Danny DeVito’s Oswald Cobblepot in the 1992 film “Batman Returns” and to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Edgar the Bug in the 1997 film “Men in Black.”

On Monday, Sept. 28, Trump announced a new $15 billion steel plant in eastern Iowa at an afternoon Oval Office event, where he seemed to fight off sleep, slumped behind the Resolute Desk. Earlier in the event, he had revived his old nickname for his predecessor, “Sleepy Joe Biden.”

The body scrutiny continued days later. On Oct. 1, during Trump’s tour of the Peterbilt Motors Company in Denton, Texas, Martin posted behind-the-scenes clips, and viewers focused on what they said was a bulge in his pants, reviving claims that he wears a diaper. Neither the White House nor Trump’s medical team has ever confirmed use of adult incontinence products, and the White House has repeatedly insisted he is in good health.

What the Record Shows

The physician to the president, Capt. Sean P. Barbabella, said in July 2025 that Trump had reported mild swelling in his lower legs. Testing, he said, identified chronic venous insufficiency, a condition the memorandum described as common among people over 70. That update reported no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, and no signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness.

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center handled the president’s annual physical on May 26, 2026. Barbabella, in a memorandum released May 29, said Trump remained in “excellent health,” with his cardiac, pulmonary and neurological function all described as strong. Motor strength, sensation, reflexes, gait and balance all came back normal in that examination.

A letter entered into the Congressional Record on April 30 carried the signatures of more than 30 physicians and mental health experts, who warned that the president is deteriorating, declared him unfit mentally and urged that he be removed from office as a matter of extreme urgency. Those doctors pointed to the more than 5,000 U.S. nuclear warheads that stand ready to launch on his order.

Trump and the White House have consistently described his health as perfect. In broad terms the findings on file back that framing, though one limitation applies: the exam that recorded a normal gait was conducted in May, four months before the driveway video.

Scrutiny Is Not New

Such scrutiny has a history. Former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens and his son Kacy Clemens played a round with the president at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia in August 2025, and he appeared there to haul his right leg behind him and move sluggishly. Ben Meiselas of MeidasTouch, reviewing that footage, said, “He’s dragging that right leg again, and he can’t walk in a straight line.”

Trump is the oldest person ever inaugurated as president. Cameras routinely catch dark bruises on his hands and swelling in his ankles, and mental slip-ups and slurred words have trailed him as well.
