A fatal jet ski accident in the lively coastal location of São Paulo, Brazil, resulted in the death of Juliana Carvalho Nasser, a 27-year-old accomplished ballet dancer.

On March 10, 2024, Juliana was spending a relaxed day on Bertioga Channel near Guarujá with a group of friends when the unexpected happened. One of her friends, inexperienced in operating the potent jet ski, attempted to carry out a set of high-velocity stunts. The friend lost control and made a dangerous high-speed U-turn, leading to a violent collision with an oncoming speedboat and Juliana’s jet ski. The collision severely injured Juliana, who later succumbed to her injuries at Hospital Santo Amaro, despite immediate medical intervention.

Witnesses described the accident scene as chaotic, with one jet ski “literally passing over” Juliana’s jet ski. The crash also resulted in a leg injury for another person.

In late April 2024, the local Civil Police charged Juliana’s friend for her careless behavior and inexperience, which contributed to the fatal accident. The Guarujá police chief commented on the case, highlighting the risks the friend took when she decided to operate the jet ski.

The dance community mourns the loss of Juliana, who was known for her dynamic energy and commitment. She was a renowned figure in local dance circles, holding a degree in Arts and an MBA in Strategic Business Management.

Juliana instructed at several dance schools and was recognized for her contributions to dance festivals. Her dedication to her art and the joy she brought through her performances left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

This event serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers associated with jet skiing. Similar accidents worldwide have resulted in fatalities.

For example, on April 20, off the coast of Gran Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, a 28-year-old woman died after her jet ski struck a breakwater.

In August 2023 in Turkey, an 11-year-old girl also lost her life when a jet ski collided with the one she was riding at high speed.

These tragic incidents underline the need for stricter safety regulations and comprehensive training for jet ski operators and other water sports enthusiasts. As the world grieves the loss of individuals like Juliana, it is essential that both enthusiasts and casual participants understand the risks and adhere to safety procedures to prevent such devastating accidents.
